Best-for lists, explained
How are these best-for lists built?
Each list re-ranks the same eligible vendors on a single dimension instead of the blended overall score. "Best for Lab Results" and "Best for Shipping Speed" rank the relevant sub-score directly, with the overall score breaking ties. "Best Value" is a 60/40 blend of the pricing and lab sub-scores, so a low price only ranks if the testing holds up. The underlying data is identical to the main directory and the published methodology.
What makes a vendor eligible for these lists?
A vendor must be fully scored (all five subscores) and must have third-party testing we could independently verify. The testing gate is computed from certificates (rule A9): a vendor clears it when at least half of its scored products have a certificate whose key we confirmed at the issuing laboratory, a laboratory in our directory that is not tier D. Vendors below that line carry the gate and are left off these lists. A site that is offline does not set the gate: a store that is not taking orders keeps the scores and gate from its last full audit (rule F1). The gate records that testing could not be verified; it is not a finding of a quality or safety problem.
How often are the rankings updated?
Rankings update whenever a vendor's audit data changes. We re-score vendors on a rolling basis as new COAs, lab reports, and pricing information become available. The audit date for each vendor is shown on their individual review page. The "Recently updated" section on the homepage shows the six most recently re-scored vendors.
How these lists are built
Only vendors that are fully scored and carry no testing gate are eligible. A vendor whose third-party testing we couldn’t verify can’t appear here no matter how cheap or fast they are; the gate records that testing could not be verified, not a finding of a quality or safety problem. “Best for Lab Results” and “Best for Shipping Speed” rank the relevant sub-score directly (overall score breaks ties). “Best Value” is 60% pricing + 40% lab credibility.
